Leadership Team

John Halliwell
Executive Head Teacher and Director of Primary

John Halliwell, originally from Liverpool, grew up during his secondary years on the Isle of Man and has therefore been through both an urban and rural education.  This also reflects his experience as a teacher and leader in schools, which began in 2001 as a teacher in a Middle School in Settle, North Yorkshire followed by a move to London in 2003 where he has since remained.

As a teacher and leader within London, John has held roles as SENCo, Inclusion Leader and Deputy Headteacher. He has been a Headteacher in 3 schools within the London Boroughs of Newham, Barking & Dagenham and now within Croydon/Sutton and is a valued member of the STEP Executive Team.  John’s overall aim has been to work with communities who are within the highest areas of deprivation and in turn to make a significant impact on the aspirations and achievement of the children within these communities.

Since joining STEP, and in recognition of outstanding leadership, John has been an NLE.  More recently, John has also led on leadership development at a Trust wide level and strategically oversees SEND; providing training, coaching and developing talent mapping throughout the Trust.
